I too came from elsewhere many years ago and chose to raise my children in Edmonton, because it truly is a great city. Hundreds of realtors from across Canada have grown to trust me over the years to give their clients the service they need and deserve. Having a strong part of my business coming from these referrals by other agents, is something I’ve always been grateful for, and work very hard to continue to earn. They tell me it’s mostly because I deliver a more personal approach, on top of the expert skills everybody needs. It also boils down to personality and knowing that we will likely get along well, because these agents know me, and they know their clients.   

 

This is a big deal and provides enormous confidence and trust for lots of my clients. I’m proud to be one of Canada’s most referred agents and most of all, to be able to provide the higher-level knowledge and skills that people really need for maximum success. For many years now as a form of thanks, I’ve hosted a charity fundraiser at the annual national conventions for realtors. Each year we raise thousands of dollars for The Children’s Miracle Network. I’m appreciative beyond words for being known as someone people can count on.

Giving Back

I’ve also sat on the board for the Realtors Community Foundation for 7 years as president, and now sit as a past president continuing to help the community in every way we can. The foundation promotes and raises money for small local Edmonton charities. This past year alone, we were able to give over $400,000 to 50 charities in need.

Negotiations can be challenging and they vary based on the principle parties, the agents, the market, and the property. Also, tactics that work in one situation might not in the next. So, you need to work with a seasoned expert who not only understands all the options and strategies, but has all the communication skills necessary to optimize your success.

1) Secret Motivators Can Make all the Difference

Things aren't always about money. Personalities, circumstances, time, fear, sentimentality, and ego, often play important and sometimes dominant roles in negotiations. The better these issues are identified, the more they can be used to your benefit.

 

2) Knowing How to Leverage Time

Time is always of the essence. Responding quickly, or, consciously slowing down the negotiations by not reacting quickly, both have their uses. Typically, both parties in real estate negotiations tend to rush, but sometimes doing the opposite serves your negotiation stance better. Plus, it also gives you more time to strategize and decide how to proceed.
